What events were held in Ashton Hayes for the community to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June 2022 ?

In the run up to the many events held in June our cardboard pop-up monarch was seen on social media as she visited locations and local groups around the village.

The Gardening Club made a great job of planting the village sign flower beds.

Thursday 2nd June – At 2pm at Ashton Hayes and Mouldsworth Community Shop our Village Crier officially announced that a beacon would be lit in the evening.

Thursday 2nd June – The Lighting of the Beacon evening event was held at The Queen Elizabeth II Playing Field, Ashton Hayes

The Jubilee Beacons was one of the official events of the Platinum Jubilee being held across The Commonwealth on Thursday evening and we lit one of the Community Beacons right here in Ashton Hayes as it went dark. There was a bugler, a visit by the morris dancers, a bar, hot-dogs and tastings of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Tart.

Friday 3rd June to Sunday 5th June – An Exhibition of work by local artists at Ashton Hayes Parish Rooms

Friday 3rd June to Sunday 5th June – A Display of 1950s Memorabilia at Ashton Hayes and Mouldsworth Village Hall

Saturday 4th June – A Baking Challenge at Ashton Hayes and Mouldsworth Village Hall

Saturday 4th June – A Fun Dog Show and Family Day at Ashton Hayes Primary School

This was a fun dog show held in glorious sunny weather with a number of different classes and dog related stalls in addition to a range of family fun activities, a BBQ and a bar. Not just for corgis !

Sunday 5th June – 1950s themed Village Fete at The Queen Elizabeth II Playing Field

Planned as a bring your own picnic 1950s themed afternoon event the British weather brought rain overnight but it brightened up later in the day for us to enjoy the old fashioned stalls, the slow bicycle ‘race’ and the tug of war.

Sunday 5th June – Celebratory Church Service at St John the Evangelist Church

Originally planned as an outdoor service at The Queen Elizabeth II Playing Field this was instead held indoors where the service included performances from local music groups and was followed by coffee and cake.
