The Great Big Green Week: 24 September – 2 October

Residents across west Cheshire can get involved in the UK’s biggest celebration of community action to tackle climate change and protect nature during this year’s Great Big Green Week.

Running between 24 September and 2 October, the week will see a selection of events running throughout the borough and nationwide.

As part of the week-long celebrations, Eco Communities has organised a Great Big Green Week Festival on Saturday, 24 September, 11am to 4pm, at Chester Grosvenor Park, supported by Cheshire West and Chester Council, Cheshire West Voluntary Action, Chester Zoo, the Co op and Sykes Holiday Cottages.

There will be something for everyone at this year’s festival with a fun palace and fair zone, nature activities, workshops and stalls selling sustainable goods.

Queen’s Jubilee Celebration Preparations

As you will know it is the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebration on the weekend of 2nd – 5th June 2022. Local communities are being asked to arrange events as part of the celebrations. This would potentially include taking part in the national beacon lighting event on the evening of 2nd June as well as a multi-organisation community event which, thanks to AHSRA, is likely to be held on the recreation field on Sunday 5th June.

If you are a local resident or local organisation/group and you are interested in being on the organising committee for one or both of these events the parish council would love to hear from you. Please email us at queensjubilee@ashtonhayespc.co.uk with your details and we will be in touch.

You can also use this address to let us know of any ideas you may have for these and possibly other events over the weekend, even if you don’t want to help organise them. We cannot promise to take all suggestions forward but they will be considered.

Thank you

Spring Community Cleanup – Date for your diary!

We Need You

As we move out of lockdown the parish council are keen to restart the very successful community cleanup events. We know several local people have been picking up litter all through lockdown and we are grateful to them for helping to keep the parish tidy.

The next formal community cleanup event will take place on Saturday 29th May 2021, and will coincide with the Keep Britain Tidy “Great British Spring Clean 28 May to 13 June 2021”.

As there will still be some COVID-19 restrictions in place, we are asking those who wish to take part to let us know in advance by emailing communitycleanup@ashtonhayespc.co.uk by the end of 23rd May. This will allow us to plan COVID secure routes etc.

More details will follow in due course.
